🎓 The kids aren’t alright. Protests over the war in Gaza have erupted at multiple college campuses across the U.S. and while there is evidence of organized funding and support for their causes, perhaps one of the most troubling aspects of it all is that it seems a fair amount of kids don’t really know why they are protesting in the first place. It’s unclear where the next step leads… but universities across the country have responded differently.

Our take: What troubles us the most (aside from the violence) is seeing a lot of young people unable to explain what they are protesting; especially a subject that has as much complexity as the current Middle East conflict.

Watching these events unfold has led to multiple dinner table discussions in our house on what type of higher education is right for our daughters. As parents we want to teach them how to seek out information from all angles, consider the source, and come to their own independent conclusions (which we thought was the job of elite higher education). If you have any parenting tips on how to achieve this, please send them over by replying to this email.

đź’¸ Higher taxes? The current administration is proposing an increase in taxes in their latest budget proposal. While not an immediate issue to a lot of families, it’s worth thinking about how you feel on this topic as several tax cuts from 2017 legislation are set to expire in 2025.

đź“´ Smartphone bans actually might work. Middle school kids in Norway have been feeling mentally healthier and performing better academically since a public health initiative banned smartphones in schools. In case you were wondering, in March 2023 Utah became the first U.S. state to adopt laws regulating children's access to social media, followed by others including Arkansas, Louisiana, Ohio, Texas, and Florida.

“Being a father is the single greatest feeling on Earth. Not including those wonderful years I spent without a child, of course.”
